Christmas Dinner and Ornament Exchange Meeting
at Tellie & Dave Bray's
December 18, 1999

As some settled in for a long winter's nap,

others had rousing conversations.

Most were queuing for the usual great dinner.

Yes Bob?

The main dish was Ham.

Some ate faster than others and one wore a non-typical calm sweater.
It must have been the anticipation of the Ornament Exchange.

And then a high spirited Ornament Exchange

It all ended with the last ornament to the Frazers.

The exchange was so fast and furious picture taking was impossible.

The meeting ended with Bob Gibbs leading the singing of "Silent Night".
Thanks Bob.

Meeting minutes of the Potsdam Apres Ski Club
Meeting Hosts: Dave and Tellie Bray

Saturday, December 18, 1999

The December meeting and annual ornament exchange was held at the Bray's. Those present included Bill and Dorothy Mein, Bob and Sue Gibbs, Russ and Heather Nelson, Doris and Ron Frazer, Bill and Trish Lewis, Judy Lowell and her son Mark, Gene and Carolyn Kaczka, Buckley Riggs, Dick and Joanne Partch, Paul McGrath and Joan LaComb, Joe and Jutta Fitzsimmons, Bill and Cathy Petersen, Margaret and Jim Thorp, Bob and Shirley Metcalf, Bob and Ellen Burns, Dave and Tellie Bray, and Bob and Susan Meyer.

After a wonderful ham dinner, the natives got restless. The meeting was called to order at 8:20. The minutes were read and after the treasurer's report was given, someone asked who was delinquent. The secretary/treasurer reported that a few people were, and someone noted that Burns must be. Bob Burns was quick to point out that he most certainly was not delinquent. A brief interchange between the Petersen's and the Burns about dues ensued, but we don't need to get into the details here. It was friendly.

The Brays were thanked for their hospitality and the ham, and Dorothy was thanked for calling. That was when Dick Partch piped up and said they had never gotten a call. Some discussion about looking out over the water and seeing who was home followed, and there may have been some binoculars involved, and someone asked what did the Meins see when they looked out over the water to see if the Partch's were home. We won't go any further with that one!

The only item of new business concerned downhill ski trips. Contact the Metcalfs if you want to go on January 22. Also, the Metcalfs will volunteer to look into arrangements if anyone is interested in a March trip.

Dorothy Mein passed out a little exercise on numbers amid much mystery. Quiet descended as everyone focused on higher math for a few minutes. When it was all over, we all knew how old we were and how many times a week we wanted to eat out. Dorothy also passed around a bag of stuff left at other people's houses and noted that what didn't disappear was going to the church rummage sale.

Then it was time for the ornament exchange. Burns had one comment before the ornament exchange on the matter of one ornament or two per family. Then he noted that he is first generation computer, and there's something flaky about his RAM and his ROM and perhaps his solder joints are a little loose.

Bob Meyer read the original official rules. He preceded that with some definitions of terms. There was some semantic argument over what the meaning of the word "couple" is. In the end, Bob said that if anyone doesn't like the rules, they should volunteer for president. Then he said that if you don't like the rules, take it up with the Grinch.

On to the exchange itself! There were 18 numbers this year. One was for Steve and Pat Crist (in absentia). Judy Lowell won the fruit sent by the Beane's and everyone signed a note to the Beane's. The Thorps drew #1 then opened a package. Ellen Burns did the first steal (she said she collects Santas). There was the usual amount of cyclic stealing, with a stuffed penguin going around a few times, two or three Santas changing hands a lot, a little tin man, and this small penguin that no one could seem to keep for long. At one point, Jim Thorp offered Ron 50¢ for the crazy Santa with the goggles. It didn't work, though the Thorps may have wound up with that one in the end. The last ornament opened may have been the best. It was a pink flamingo on skis with a nose warmer.

As we adjourned, Bob Gibbs led us in a rendition of Silent Night and everyone said Merry Christmas.
